Merry Christmas From Edwin the Travelin’ Pitcher

Pending a physical (assuming they get this sucker done before Christmas), Edwin Jackson will be joining the Cubs on a four year deal worth $52MM.  Since he’s consistently durable, I don’t have any reason to believe he would fail this physical.  Edwin will be joining a new buddy, Carlos Villanueva, in the mix for the suddenly crowded Chicago Cubs rotation.  Always good to have pitching depth, even if most of it is back-of-the-rotation dudes.  And as Mauricio and the good folks at Obstructed View have analyzed the deal and figured it’s not half bad, and I respect their opinions, I’m going to change my initial opinion from Grumpy Clint Eastwood to a solid “meh” and hope for the best.

It’s Christmas, and we should welcome the new Cubs, especially Edwin Jackson.  Let’s be of good cheer with another World Series Dreaming holiday special…

World Series Dreaming

Wishes You All a Merry Christmas With

Edwin the Travelin’ Pitcher

To the Tune of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”

You know Greinke and Marcum

And Kyle Lohse and Blanton

McCarthy, Joe Saunders

Liriano and then some

But do you recall…

…the most-traveled pitcher of all?

Edwin, the Travelin’ Pitcher

Had a lot of baseball hats

He never stayed in one place

He was traded just like that

All of the other pitchers

Stayed in one place with a smile

That was not for poor Edwin

Who got frequent flier miles

But just before Christmas Eve

Jed Hoyer called to say

“The pitching market’s kind of slight,

Won’t you pitch under Wrigley’s lights?”

And oh how the Cubs paid him

Look at all that big money

Enjoy your riches, Edwin

Til you’re traded to a new team!

Merry Christmas from World Series Dreaming, and from DMX!
