We are on our way! For the 7th year in a row my dad and I are on our way to Wrigley for the Home Opener. This is my son’s 3rd year and this year, adding to the tradition is my youngest brother tagging along to see what the hype is all about!
The rain is falling. The wind is gusting (from what I’m hearing straight out at Wrigley). It’s downright crappy conditions out. But when we step off that red line and the smells of the grills, the sounds if the crowd, the sea of blue and white jerseys surrounding the most beautiful place on earth treat our eyes, it’s all worth it.
Back in 2011 on Opening Day, a wonderful lady named Betsy chose our family out of thousands to throw out the first pitch. We have kept in touch with her over the years. She still works in the office for the Cubs. She has invited us today to a tour of the Cubs offices! I’m pretty sure the “Big guys” will be out and about in the neighborhood establishments making various media appearances, so probably wont see them, but it’s still going to be a cool experience. Be sure to follow me at www.twitter.com/hmcalvey. I will be trying to update frequently throughout the day and let you experience Opening Day at Wrigley vicariously through me! Go Cubs!
