After taking a break on the minor league recaps to focus a little more closely on the Rule 4 Draft last week, there is plenty of good news to catch up on over the last couple of weeks in the system. Kris Bryant continues to defend his Southern League Player of the Week crown. On the injury front…

Jorge Soler is also working out in Mesa, but is expected to be a little longer in returning from this hamstring strain than the others he’s had this year.
Speaking of Mesa…this happened since we last got together…

The Cougars have been rolling all season, and have won their division in the 1st half. With that happening, there is a good change we see Kyle Schwarber in Kane County before the end of the season and into the Midwest League playoffs.

Smokies All-Stars 2014. Kris Bryant 3B, Rafael Lopez-C,Steven Bruno-2B, John Andreoli-LF, Corey Black -RHP, Armando Rivero-RHP

The prospect heavy Smokies have not disappointed, garnering six All-Star selections, led by the ever-so-dreamy Kris Bryant. The starting rotation has been a disappointment in the lone sense that they have battled injuries from the outset of the season, and have been missing the two biggest names, Edwards and Johnson, for much of the season.
Record This Season: 33-30, 3rd Place (-1.0) PCL American North
The I-Cubs have been in a battle for their division lead for much of the season, dropping to 3rd place, but remaining only one game out of the top slot. Javier Baez missed some time since the last recap after being hit on the wrist, and has cooled off from the torrid hot streak he was on, but his numbers continue to climb after a brutal start. He’s up to .230/.290/.439 with 9 HRs and 31 RBI…all of which is to say, let’s stay calm in regard to Baez.
