The game is over now, and the Chicago Cubs didn’t win, but it’s still spring training and there are always positives to be had.
Except for a sure hit that he may have taken a less-than-ideal route on, Kris Bryant looked good in left field, backing up a play on an overthrow to third base and initiating a double play when Joey Giavotella inexplicably took off from second base before the batter even took a swing.
The defense on the whole was pretty good:
#Cubs Bryant catches Cowgill’s fly ball in LF and doubles up runner at 2nd to end 6th. Nice play by Baez to handle throw/tag

Very, very nice 5-3-6 double play that #Cubs La Stella started with bare-handed grab — Carrie Muskat (@CarrieMuskat) March 27, 2015
#Cubs have turned 4 double plays tonight

And a video:
Doubling up Mike Trout is a pretty big deal especially on that kind of ball in play. Glad Javier Baez didn’t break. There were homers too! Here’s Mike Olt:
And here’s pinch-hitter extraordinaire, Travis Wood:
They should just have Wood be the DH 😛
By the way, sorry about the unintended clickbait earlier, but that was pretty funny.

How annoying was that constant pitchtrax box thingy? Guh. I hope that’s not a permanent “feature” on ESPN.
I think, Alex, they were saying the Pitchtrax box is going to be common during the season 🙁
I actually kinda like it, but I think they should do that on replay rather than live so it doesn’t obscure the action.
