We are going to do this a little bit different today. I will be doing the preview for the upcoming series first. You’ll find out why in just a moment…
Chicago Cubs @ Detroit Tigers, Comerica Park
The Cubs visit Detroit and start a short two-game series against the Tigers Tuesday night, which I will be attending. I try to make the trip to a new MLB Stadium every year and this year it will be Comerica Park.
The Cubs have split their last six road games but I’m hoping for the sweep in this two-game series. In the opener, Jon Lester gets the nod for the Cubs, he’s 4-4 with a 3.86 ERA and 65 strikeouts this season and he is 2-4 with a 4.83 ERA and 47 strikeouts in his career against the Tigers. Anibal Sanchez gets the ball for the Tigers and the struggling pitcher looks to get back on the win column. The Tigers have lost the last four games Sanchez has started, and he has been stuck with the loss in three of them. He only has two quality starts in his last six outings and his last outing was June 3rd where he gave up four runs over seven innings in a loss to Oakland. Sanchez is 2-2 with a 4.55 ERA in five career starts against the Cubs. The Cubs arrive in Detroit after taking three of four from the Nationals (you can check out the box scores for the entire series from here). Kris Bryant finished a home run short of the cycle and Anthony Rizzo extended his hit streak to 12 games.
Anthony Rizzo leads the Cubs with 66 hits and 35 RBIs while Starlin Castro and Kris Bryant have combined for 61 RBIs. The Tigers are facing the Cubs for the first time since taking two of three at Wrigley Field in June 2012. They’ve won nine of 10 in the series, including a three-game sweep at Comerica in June 2009. I hope I bring the team good luck and can witness some good baseball and a couple of W’s for our boys!
Here are the pitching matchups. Both games will be on CSN.
