I love baseball and I love baseball fans. But baseball fans are a funny bunch always looking for signs that their team is going to do well, or in line for something special. We saw this in 2008 with my fellow Chicago Cubs fans. Everything was the first time since (insert a year) and that was a sure sign the Cubs were going to do something great this postseason.
As we all remember, 2008 did not end so well.
I have seen and heard the following two signs multiple places (Twitter, FaceBook and on the radio this morning).
The game is being played on October 7. That is common knowledge. But write out the date numerically and you get the game being played 10-7. That is 107 same as the number of years since the Cubs last won a World Series.
Be a little more specific, and you will see the Cubs game starts at 7:08 PM. Again, that is well known. However, once again you can see a sign in that too. In military time, the Cubs will be playing at 19:08.
There we go with that year again, and a supposed sign that something special might be on the horizon. I am not sure if those are signs of anything more than a coincidence, but if the Cubs do win the World Series, that will make for a great story. Just like how the movie “Back to the Future II” will become relevant again for their prediction that the Cubs will win the World Series that year (despite the day in October being way off).
You want a sign that this club is in store for something special? Look no further than the talent on this team, led by Jake Arrieta and Anthony Rizzo, with a support staff of Jon Lester, Kris Bryant, Addison Russell, Starlin Castro, Dexter Fowler, Kyle Schwarber, Miguel Montero, Jorge Soler, Chris Coghlan, Tommy La Stella, Javier Baez and many more.
I do not need a sign to see cause for this team to have some “baseball magic”, I just have to look at the talent on the field. These kids are playing with more heart and enthusiasm than I have seen in a long time.
But those signs are fun to think about, and like I said, if they win, that will only add to what has been a remarkable season.
