The South Bend Cubs recently unveiled a new program called the Silver Sluggers Program. Geared towards older adults, the baby Cubs organization buy into the research that social interaction can help seniors with their mental health as well as their physical health.

The Silver Sluggers program offers any senior 60 years old or older a discounted field box ticket for every Wednesday game starting tomorrow April 13th. The tickets will be only $6. The “Silver Sluggers” will be seating in a special “Friendship Section” where they can meet and interact with new fellow Cubs fans. Once seniors have their Silver Sluggers Membership card, it will be punched each time they attend Wednesday games. After 4 games, they will receive a special SB Cubs hat and after 6 games, they will be invited to a free, all-you-can-eat ballpark picnic on Wednesday August 24 – the final Wednesday game of the season. Saint Joseph Health System will be on hand every Wednesday for free health screenings as well.

Another unique facet of this program is a shared housing program. Two South Bend Cubs players – Craig Brooks and Carson Sands – will be living at St. Paul’s retirement community in South Bend. In exchange for free housing for the players, the St. Paul’s residents get to know two of the local players and will get to form new relationships with the team and South Bend Cubs organization. A Welcome Brunch was held earlier today, attended by Team President Joe Hart, Stu the Bear and the two players.
