With Sunday’s victory, the Chicago Cubs scored their second straight series sweep, and in doing so, have picked up a nice win total:
That’s right! The Cubs are now 69-41 and a high-water mark of 28 games over .500 this season. The game included a pretty solid performance from Jorge Soler, who chased Sean Manaea from the game with a majestic bomb, and Kris Bryant had one of his own for RBI #69 on the season.
As for the rest of baseball? Well, this was also nice for Ichiro Suzuki:
I’ve traded for Ichiro to play on my video game teams numerous times, so I’m certainly happy for him to get this milestone hit. Oh, and then there was the St. Louis Cardinals losing, which means the Cubs go into their off-day with an 11.5 game division lead. That is certainly also nice.
69 wins is three more than the Washington Nationals have, and more than any American League team as well, so I think for the time being, we can call the Cubs the best team in baseball. Nice.
