The Cubs Won’t Be a Losing Team This Year

If I told you that on August 24, the Chicago Cubs would be the best team in baseball with 81 wins, miles ahead of every other team in the National League, and all of Major League Baseball, you’d be okay with this, right?

Well, after escaping the baseball black hole that is Coors Field, the Cubs went back to being a juggernaut, sweeping the San Diego Padres rather easily.  With this new win streak, the Cubs have pushed their record to 81-45, with a +217 run differential if I’ve done my math right.  The point is that the Cubs score runs and don’t let their opponents score runs, something that I think we’ve started to take for granted, which is why we start becoming surprised when it DOESN’T happen.  Anyway, this is just an excuse for us to show off some Willson Contreras clips and also some Cubs defensive gems, and I don’t think you’ll object to that either.  Ready?

Here’s Willson Contreras with the FUCK YOU BITCH pickoff at 3B…

Excuse my language, but how else could you describe it? The runner was dead in the water! Oh, and there’s some Javier Baez magic…

Pretty unconventional, but still awesome, 4-6-3 double play to bail out Jake Arrieta. And of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t show some offense:

The fans couldn’t believe it either. Next!

Chicago Cubs @ Los Angeles Dodgers

Since every single Dodger is on the disabled list (almost not hyperbole!), they have not yet set their rotation for the weekend, so we just have the Cubs’ side:

So that’s what we’ll get, as the Dodgers try to maintain their new division lead over the San Francisco Giants, and the Cubs try to guarantee a winning season, because they certainly won’t have a losing season now!  Let’s check out half the matchups then, where the Dodgers will throw TBA out there three straight times until his arm also falls off and they break the MLB disabled list record…
