The Unsung Hero

The Cubs got their asses kicked on Saturday night, and yeah, they have other things to worry about, but how about this:

Just the previous half-inning, Miguel Montero had come in to make things a bit more interesting and burn another Yankees pitcher with a two-run single.  I figured that with a blowout in progress and the bullpen needing a breather, Miggy would pitch the ninth inning anyway, but for a moment it seemed like the Cubs might actually make this a save situation for the Yankees.  Alas, it wasn’t to be, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t have fun!

Ultimately, Miggy’s scoreless frame, plus the mopup duty by Felix Pena and Rob Zastryzny, helped save the main guys in the bullpen as the Cubs will have to figure out their roster in the coming days.  For just a few outs, the Cubs and their fans had a bunch of fun in an otherwise forgettable game.  Long season still ahead, and it’s important to remember to have fun, even if the game sucked.

I get ya, Miggy.
