It sure seems like it has been a while since the Crosstown Cup started, but finally, it is over for 2017, and the Chicago Cubs are your city champions of baseball again:

Listen, there are way more important things to worry about right now (on this night in particular as we listen to the talks in DC). But in terms of things that we can enjoy and that are slightly more in our immediate control, let’s be glad that the Cubs will head into Milwaukee in first place with a chance to increase that lead after the weekend.
Anyway, while we’re waiting to find out if we’re all going to die, check out all the bombs and big plays from the Crosstown Cup clincher. First off, the Anthony Rizzo dinger to tie the game:

A couple of Kyle Schwarber bombs, the second one was a Bummer for the White Sox:

What a night for @kschwarb12, indeed.

And just for kicks, a Schwarber triple (?!) rounded out his big night. Jon Lester and friends were able to keep the bullpen rested for their series in Milwaukee against the now-trailing Brewers, so that was very nice. The Cubs will get the trade deadline off, which is nice for us to follow up on the happenings. Here’s the goods on the next series, enjoy it whether you have health care or not!
