I like what the Cubs are doing, but Im crazy about drafting and prospects and talent finding. I don't really like drafting college players unless they can run through the Minors. The reason is Highschoolers are young and If they make the bigs they are younger and you will have a longer career with them, rather than a college player. .I would love to draft all the High school power arms in the 1st round - 15th round. At least a couple of them would pan out.

What Jed and Theo and co. are doing? Why? Because, despite a few snafus, it seems to be working. Yes, there are more pieces to get in place, and a few other things to be worked out, but a strong core is in place. The one thing I would differ on, ok two things are pitching and Sveum as manager. In pitching, lets face it, we suck. On the current staff, I keep Jeff S., T. Wood, Russell, and possibly Garza, though we know he will be traded to the first taker. There are also a few definite maybes in there, but that's who I start with at least. There needs to be more of an emphasis on getting quality starting and relief pitching. With Dale, my big problem with him last year is the same one he has this year, and that is when to take a struggling pitcher out. It cost us games last year and this year. I know he wants to show faith in his pitchers, but sometimes, enough is enough is enough. Time to sit down! So he needs to fix that or be gone!

For me and most Cub fans it is a big deal. Baseball and Wrigley Field is very important and almost sacred, you don't change tradition. You go to a ball game to watch baseball, so pay attention. If you're that bored that you have to create your own entertainment then you probably shouldn't be there. Especially in baseball, great plays happen so fast, and you could miss something awesome by having that go on. Honestly, it's your choice but the wave has never been accepted in Wrigley. It's distracting and annoying. Leave it for soccer games where it belongs, but that's just my opinion.

Thanks Zac! What a great story...that was my intention with this, that someone who isn't all too familiar with baseball/Cubs (like the man you mentioned in your story) can read this and realize there are certain things you can't do, like the wave...especially at Wrigley! Thanks for your input and Go Cubs!

Thanks for a well-written article that hits all the important points. I was watching the Cubs - Rockies game last night (May 15, 2013) on our local (Denver) sports channel -- WGN America didn't have it on, so my wife (native Wilmetter) and I had to suffer the inane commentary of Drew Goodman and Cubs-pitcher-for-one-season George Frazier -- when suddenly we caught a blur of movement behind the batter sometime during the seventh or eighth inning. "Are they doing the fucking wave?" my wife screamed at the TV. It reminded me of the time we were sitting in the second deck at Wrigley, almost right above the visitors bullpen, when some yoyos from out of town tried to start a wave. This giant of a man a few rows closer to the field stood up, beer in hand, turned his back on the game and shouted out to the perpetrators in a witheringly caustic voice, "Hey -- this is Wrigley Field. We DON'T do the wave here -- ever. Have some respect, people." He received a standing ovation from the rest of the folks in the section. Then, one batter later, Glenallen Hill hit a grand slam onto Waveland.
